Db2 for i – Ping Pong Match
Scott (Ping) - IBM's Db2 for i owner (Scott) vs the Queen of Db2 for i (Birgitta) in a match to the death. What could be more exciting? Upon further review, we have decided to conduct a friendly match of "Anything you can do, I can do better". Scott and Birgitta will take turns talking about their shared passion... Db2 for i.
Birgitta (Pong) - Db2 for i is integrated in the operating system. Data which is mainly stored in database tables is our most valuable asset. SQL provides commands for generating database objects, for manipulating data in these database objects. Different join methods and around 180 scalar functions, including functions for generating XML or JSON data are available for editing the data in the we needed. Multiple techniques, such as RCAC (Row and Column Access Control) are available for securing the data. With the last releases a lot of powerful features are integrated in Db2 and SQL, and with each technology refresh we get additional enhancements.…but what about our legacy applications? In this session we will illuminate several discussion points from two perspectives, from the architect’s (Scott’s) and the programmer’s (Birgitta’s) side.
